We broke our every two-year release cycle to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Utopias, and one of our greatest brewing accomplishments at Samuel Adams. We also broke our tradition of a gold bottle, with a special black vessel. While we actually began releasing barrel-aged beers with Triple Bock in 1994, it wasn't until the 1st Utopias in 2002 that we introduced barrels that previously held spirits to mellow the high-alcohol beer on the palette.
Named after the United States founding farther, Samuel Adams brewing company was formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1984. Originally, they started by brewing lager but also quickly established themselves as a leading figure in the world of craft beers.
Utopias was first released in 2002 and became a yearly fixture in the company’s portfolio. At the time of its release it was marketed as the strongest commercial beer in the world.
Fewer than 15,000 bottles of Utopias are released each year and famously sell-out immediately. To make them even more difficult to find, the beer is not available in 15 out of the 50 US States due to its extremely high alcohol content.
