Port Askaig is a mysterious malt whisky from Islay that has won over quite a following.
Port Askaig takes its name from a shipping town located on the North East of Islay, just across from Jura. The nearest distillery to the Port is the whisky behemoth Caol Ila, often used in mystery and independent bottlings from the island… We will leave you to make any assumptions based on those facts!
The 8 year old is the youngest in the Port Askaig range, but lacks nothing in quality or complexity, with the youth enhancing this whisky’s incredible peaty flavors. On the nose this whisky offers up classic North-East Islay aromas of grassy peat, fresh cereal and maritime minerality. The palate brings a fierce peaty flavor, with liqourice, cereal notes, grass and charred oak. The finish is warming, long and smoky, with a slight dry grassy note.
Bottled without chill filtration or coloring, and at a hefty 45.8% ABV, this allows the whisky’s flavors to sing out. One that every Islay fan will love!
